Ihedioha Urges Moral Rebirth among Ndigbo

Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has urged the Igbo nation to retrace its steps and halt the slide of moral decadence and vices especially among youths in a bid to reposition the race for the challenges of modern times.

Speaking at this year’s annual Mbaise USA recognition award event which held at the Marriot Hotel, Dallas, USA, over the weekend, the Deputy Speaker charged Ndigbo to collectively muster the resolve to change the tide of moral decadence in society. He said: “We all have a common responsibility to speak out in condemnation of the value degeneration in our society,” adding: “The emerging incipient culture of criminality that is currently taking root in our community is not part of our heritage.”

While urging the audience comprised primarily of Mbaise sons and daughters in the USA to seek ways of contributing their quota towards the task ahead, Ihedioha said “the prevailing situation at home calls for value re-orientation on the part of our people including the young and the old. The time to recover our land is now.

“We must resolve to return our community to the path of sanity and social rebirth. There is an urgent need for us to revert back to those values, morals and norms for which our people were renowned and respected. We must go back to those cherished values that helped our forebears to build a society that thrived in unity, love and common understanding by rejecting evil, embracing the common good and respecting “ofo na ogu”.

The event which was well attended by numerous Mbaise sons and daughters from across all walks of life in the USA featured presentation of an award to the Deputy Speaker for his contributions to the growth and development of Mbaise and Ndigbo generally in Nigeria.
